Winning Work: Smarter Tendering for Building Designers

Winning Work: Smarter Tendering for Building Designers
Tendering is a significant opportunity for building designers to secure meaningful work, particularly in public and community-funded projects. Yet it is often approached with uncertainty — not helped by the perception that tenders are the domain of larger architectural practices.

This session is tailored specifically for building designers. It will map the surprisingly broad field of projects that sit within a building designer’s class scope, show how to competitively position a small practice against architects, and take attendees through a practical end-to-end process for developing stronger tender responses.

The session will also touch on two emerging considerations shaping the tendering landscape. The first is the growing relevance of prefabricated and modular construction — rarely specified in tenders as a delivery method, but highly suited to many of the project typologies building designers pursue, particularly in regional and remote areas where project budgets, transport, program and workforce pressures favour off-site or more efficient methods of construction. The second is the basics of social procurement, which is increasingly appearing in tender documents even for modest projects.
