Architecture in the age of diversity with Hiroyuki Unemori

Design Matters National are excited to have special guest Hiroyuki Unemori, Founder of UNEMORI ARCHITECTS, share his experiences and knowledge of architecture in the age of diversity. A Japanese architect born in 1979, Hiroyuki Unemori successfully graduated from Yokohama National University Graduate School with a master's degree in 2005, whilst working for Taira Nishizawa Architects from the period between 2002-09.  Hiroyuki soon after established the award winning UNEMORI ARCHITECTS in 2009. These major awards include the BCS Prize, JIA Excellent Architecture Prize, AIJ Annual Architectural Design Commendation, and ShinKenchiku Prize. UNEMORI ARCHITECTS, with the vision of Hiroyuki Unemori, creates architecture that enables us to recognize diversity and feel for others. A prime example of this work is "House in Takaoka" a stilts house generating from the response to ventilation and humidity, "BASE" a shared office that boldly renovated the middle floor into an outdoor terrace and “Kitakami health & childcare support complex” that various people can use freely. Other projects include various buildings differing in scale, site, and usage, from small-scale houses of about 50m2 in Tokyo to large-scale public facilities of over 10,000m2 in local cities.  This not to be missed online session will provide attendees a lecture on architecture in the age of sustainability to come, that stays close to nature and living with others in Japan, heading toward a mature society with an aging and declining population.
